annie havlicek–NYC’s Feminine Indie Fashion Designer
| The Annie Havlicek Boutique located the upper mezzanine level on Orchard St. Between Rivington and Stanton, open its door May 2010. The Boutique carries the designer’s eponymous line as well as a collaborative shoe line, Osborn Shoes, Brixton Hats, and jewelry by both Digby & Iona and The Docent. |
| The Annie Havlicek Boutique mixes vintage aesthetics and modern accoutrements that ultimately and beautifully showcase her lovely garments. Upon stepping through her doors, you quickly discover whimsical feminine dresses in a muted color palette that, according to the designer, are inspired by Renoir’s le Moulin de la Gallette. |
| The painting depicts a typical Sunday afternoon in the Moulin de la Gallette, neighborhood in Paris, where working class Parisians who would dress up, dance, drink and eat crusty cakes. This 19th century painting reflects characters who are lighthearted yet impeccably dressed in their exquisite garments. These images speak volumes in Annie Havlicek’s 2010 Spring line, where she cleverly balances classical form with the artistic influences of the Lower East Side. Anne cleverly brings together old world aesthetics with a modern whimsical twist, not unlike the interior of the Annie Havlicek Boutique, which is also her flagship store. Gorgeous girly white blouses paired with tailored linen trousers and graceful silk dresses are the perfect balance between the masculine and feminine aesthetics. Osborn Shoes and Annie Havlicek joined forces to design and produce very fun cream/tan canvas and lace oxfords: a yummy addition to her spring line. Osborn Shoe's design team Carla and Aaron Osborn's philosophy is that “ fine art and commercial art are conceived, blended, expanded upon, and the produced.” Their shoes are hand-cut and hand-made using fair trade practices and local resources in Guatemala. As an added benefit, each shoe is signed by the artisan who made them. |

The Annie Havlicek Boutique carries Brixton Hats, the straw fedora by Brixton is featured prominently in Annie’s Spring 2010 line. Three friends who derive their inspiration from the music and culture clearly projected in their lines launched the Brixton label in 2004. These hip designs are well-crafted and quite affordable. An ensemble is never complete without a hint of jewelry, and the Annie Havlicek Boutique showcases jewelry by both Digby & Iona, and The Docent. The Digby & Iona jewelry line is named by its creator Aaron Ruff for two sleepy seaside towns in Nova Scotia. Aaron creates pieces that provoke conversation, like the “caged sparrow” necklace, or the “ Giant Hare” ring cast in gunmetal, vermeil, and/or sliver that incorporates semiprecious stones. This is hip jewelry with nature's edge. |
| Jewelry by The Docent, founded by the Parson school graduate Cora Thompson, can also be found in the store. Cora’s believes “ jewelry should be humorous, playful in nature, with a discreetly dark undertone." A fabulous example of her concept is in her Spring 2010 line, “ Liberty Barbed Wire” necklace, which is liberty fabric wrapped around sterling silver-plated barbed wire, ouch!
